The Food Safety Authority of Ireland has advised that a product recall of Lloyd Grossman Korma Sauce is underway in Ireland. The FSAI have identified that an implicated batch of the product, which is linked to two cases of botulism in the UK has been distributed to Tesco Ireland. The FSAI is warning consumers who have purchased this particular product not to eat it. The affected packs are as follows:
- Lloyd Grossman Korma Sauce 350 gram jar.
- Batch code is 12180.
- Best before date – February 2013.
Premier Foods, the distributors are recalling the product from retailers and are liaising with the FSAI in relation to its actions. The Authority advises that anyone that has consumed this product and feels unwell should immediately seek medical attention. Any consumers who have purchased the product should dispose of it immediately or return it to their retailer.
Speaking about the latest recall, Liam Moloney, Product Liability Solicitor said today “botulism is a particularly serious illness which can be potentially life threatening if left untreated. It is a paralytic illness, causing by the toxins created by clostridium botulinum, which is a spore forming bacterium. It thrives in anaerobic conditions and may therefore be detected in sealed containers and packets containing processed food”. He added “members of the public should be vigilant for signs and symptoms of food poisoning including headaches, muscle weakness, blurred vision and problems swallowing.”
