Moloney Solicitors are currently advising clients who have experienced a worsening of their vision following the insertion of intraocular lenses. In 2011 Oculentis supplied lenses which were later recalled. Patients reported deterioration in their vision often with symptoms to include difficulty with bright lights, back lighting, silhouettes or low light conditions although other symptoms were reported.
The manufacturer claims the problems may be due to an interaction between phosphate crystals used in the hydration process and silicone residues on the lens.

He added “clients affected typically experience a deterioration of their visual acuity at around 36 months post-surgery and calcification of the lens surface may be observed. We recommend that any clients affected by a reduced visual acuity should contact their Ophthalmologist immediately for further advice. The Ophthalmologist will be able to advise on the best course of action necessary and whether an IOL exchange is an option or not”.
