The last wrongful death law suit remaining from the 9/11 terrorist attacks was settled on Monday last. The family of Mark Bavis, a hockey scout who died on that day, decided to settle their wrongful death law suit after making public as much information as they could about as what they saw as security lapses on 9/11 at Boston’s Logan Airport, where United Airlines flight 175 originated.
Mr. Bavis was aboard flight 175 when it took off from the airport, was overtaken by terrorists and flown into the south tower. The family blamed United Airlines and the Security company that provided security at the airport, for security failures that the family claimed enabled the terrorists to hijack the plane. The family alleged that the company failed to hire and retain qualified screeners and to properly train them for the growing threat of terrorism.
On the morning of the 9/11 attacks at least 9 screeners were unaware that the threat level had been raised to a level which meant terrorists with a known capability to attack airplanes were likely to carry out attacks against US targets. The family were prepared to introduce evidence suggesting that the hijackers on flight 175 used knives, mace and pepper spray to over take and intentionally crash the aircraft.
