Health Regulator Issues Safety update for reported side effects from Covid-19 Vaccines
The Irish Health Product Regulatory Authority (HPRA) has to-date received over 20,000 reports of suspected side effects from Covid-19 Vaccines . The HPRA System is based on voluntary reporting so therefore not all suspected side effects will have been reported. These are those that have been notified to the Authority on a voluntary basis by Healthcare Professionals and members of the public. The Authority, as part of its pro-active policy of gathering information on potential side effects, encourages the reporting of suspected side effects from all vaccines.
Speaking about the lastest safety update Liam Moloney Solicitor whose firm are representing people who suffered serious adverse complications following Covid-19 vaccinations said today “vaccines are not completely without risk, and it is accepted that regardless of proper design, manufacture and delivery in rare cases serious adverse injuries can occur following vaccination. Most vaccines have some side effects but thankfully most of them are mild to moderate in nature which would not entitle someone to issue legal proceedings seeking damages as these are acceptable risks when receiving vaccinations.’’
Mr. Moloney added ‘’ as there is no vaccine compensation scheme in Ireland If someone suffers a serious illness following vaccination they are entitled to seek legal advice to investigate whether their illness was caused as a result of a non-safe vaccine or how it was administered to them ‘’.
The most regularly reported suspected side effects notified to them including the following:
- Fever, pain and tiredness
- Headaches
- Nausea
- Dizziness, drowsy, fainting/feeling faint, migraine, numbness/reduced sensations
- Backpain, joint/limb pain, blurred vision, coughing, shortness of breath, sore throats
- Increased heart rate/racing heart, increased blood pressure
- Tinnitus (ringing in the ears)
- Vertigo
- Reports of Myocarditis and Pericarditis
Myocarditis and Pericarditis are inflammatory conditions of the heart and can be rare side-effects of Comirnaty® and Spikevax®. These conditions can develop within just a few days after vaccination, with most cases occurring within 14 days following vaccination. The HPRA has received a total of 135 reports describing symptoms of Myocarditis and Pericarditis or a combination of both.
Myocarditis and Pericarditis can also occur for other non-vaccine related issues such as due to an immune disorder or from viral infections such as Covid-19.
