Hospital Acquired Infection is more common now in Ireland
We are renowned for our understanding of the issues affecting you and your family due to hospital-acquired infection and we know what positive action to take to make a difference.
We offer the highest level of professionalism and expertise combined with dedication and sensitivity. Above all, we put you first.
If you or a loved one has contracted an infection whilst in hospital you already know what a frightening ordeal it can be. You may also wish to recover compensation for the pain and suffering you have endured.
These are some of the common factors that could help us win your case:
- whether you were screened as MRSA or C-Difficile negative when you were admitted to hospital
- whether there were delays in recognising and treating the infection
- whether the infection was inappropriately treated
- inappropriate homecare, inappropriate antibiotics or a failure to monitor your treatment.
Even if you are unsure about these factors, it is worth contacting us. An assessment of your hospital claim is absolutely free and then you can decide if you want to proceed with a claim for compensation or not.
MRSA has become a wide spread problem amongst Irish hospitals. Over the last 25 years the presence of MRSA in hospitals has increased causing a rise in resistant strains and an increase in the number of patients that have died or have been left permanently injured.
In the past, bringing a case in negligence for actually contracting MRSA in hospital has been very difficult. There have been a few successful cases relating to the negligent treatment of MRSA but not many dealing with the negligence of contracting of MRSA.
Moloney & Co. Solicitors have access to the best specialist medical experts both in Ireland and the United Kingdom to enable you to obtain compensation for past and possible future needs to ensure that you are adequately compensated for the injuries you have received.

What is C-Difficile?
Clostridium Difficile (C-Difficile) is a bacterium that is present naturally in the gut. However, some antibiotics used to treat other health conditions can interfere with the balance causing the bacteria to multiply which in turn causes symptoms of diarrhoea and fever.
Cases related to hospital acquired infections like C-Difficile can arise from delays in recognising and providing appropriate treatment for the infection. C- Difficile produces spores that can live in the environment for a long time. Any surface, pieces of equipment or furniture can harbour the spores. People can become infected by touching contaminated surfaces.
The risk of cross infection increases when people have diarrhoea and when bathrooms and toilets are shared because the C-Difficile bacterium is spread by human waste. Failing to wash hands properly after going to the toilet or after handling contaminated food can spread C-Difficile.
What are the symptoms of C-Difficile?
The symptoms of C-Difficile include the following :
- stomach cramps and tenderness
- mild to moderate diarrhoea
- fever
- loss of appetite
- nausea.
In severe cases patients can suffer ulceration and bleeding from the colon. C-Difficile can be fatal. C-Difficile outbreaks can occur in hospital. Hospital staff should use disposable gloves and aprons when caring for infected patients. Affected patients should be segregated from others. The most effective means of removing contaminated spores is to have a system of rigorous cleaning with warm water and detergent and good hand washing practice. Alcohol gels should be used routinely by hospital staff between treating patients if hands are not visibly soiled. If hands are visibly soiled they must wash their hands with soap and warm water first and then with an alcohol gel.
If you or a loved one has contracted C-Difficile whilst in hospital you may wish to claim compensation for the suffering you have suffered.
