Alcohol skin preparation pads, swabs and swab sticks manufactured by the Triad Group since 2007 have been found to contain bacterial contamination which may lead to skin infection. This medical device alert has been issued by the MHRA in the United Kingdom and updates of previous medical device alert issued on the 11th February 2011. It is however confined to the alcohol swabs and does not affect the medicines or other components of the drug administration kits.
All those who supply and use these affected swabs, drug administration kits and device packs, in particular pharmacists and needle and syringe programmes have been advised not to use the affected swabs and use an alternative product for skin preparation. They have been told to dispose of affected swabs safely and securely.
