A number of contact lenses, known as 1-day Acuvue TruEye which are manufactured by Johnson and Johnson in Ireland have been recalled by the UK based Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency because they can cause stinging or pain upon insertion because of higher than expected levels of decanoic acid.
The medical device alert was issued by the MHRA on the 1st December 2010. Ophthalmologists, optometrists and opticians who have supplied these lenses have been advised to return all unused lenses to Johnson and Johnson and to contact patients who have received the affected products, requesting that they return unused product to their eye care professionals.
The medical device alert only relates to specified lots/batches of the device and does not relate to all of these lenses.
