Liam Moloney, a Naas based Solicitor recently addressed an International Medical Negligence conference whichtook place in Dublin on the 17th May.
The conference-“ Medical Negligence Litigation in Ireland-The Current State of Play’’ was organised by the patient safety charity – Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA) and covered many major issues currently affecting medical negligence litigation in Ireland including:
• The recent PIP Breast Implant Scandal and DePuy Cases.
• The lack of Civil Legal Aid for Medical Negligence Victims
• The Statute of Limitations for Medical Negligence Claims.
• The Introduction of Periodic Payment Orders in Ireland
• Legal Costs and the Right of Access to the Courts.
AvMA was established to promote better patient safety and justice for people who have been affected by medical accidents. Mr Moloney who practices primarily in the area of medical negligence law said today “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to address this conference. It is essential that patients injured by medical errors are not denied justice and proper compensation”.
Mr Moloney’s Naas Firm are currently taking compensation cases for many Kildare based patients who received defective hip and breast implants. He criticised the state for failing to put in place legal aid funding for victims of medical negligence. He added “ the failure by the state to provide a properly funded civil legal aid system has meant many victims of medical negligence never get compensated. In many cases children who are injured at birth are left with serious injuries with no ability to get re-dress.’’
