The Injuries Board which is the state body that processes personal injury claims has published figures that confirm that in 2012 162 people were killed on Irish roads. There were also 302 serious injury collisions.
The Injuries Board has claimed that there may even be more serious injury accidents as they made 529 high value road traffic awards in 2012.
The Injuries Board made over 10,000 awards to members of the public in respect of personal injury claims in 2012. 75% of those related to motor accidents.
Data examined by the Board has shown that the period between January and June produces fewer claims than July through December. November is the most dangerous month and Friday and Sunday are the most dangerous and safest days of the week. The average award in respect of a motor injury is just over €20,000 and the peak age bracket for motor claims in the 25 – 34 year age group.
