A medical advice alert has issued from the Medicines and Health Care Products Regulatory Agency in the United Kingdom relating to two patient vital signs monitor devices, manufactured by Philips.
The problem with the vital signs monitor is that the loud speakers on two of the modules have been found to fail. This may delay the recognition of critical clinical signs delaying patients treatment and can have catastrophic affects.
Anaesthetists, operating theatre practitioners, intensive care staff have been requested to identify all affected units and to remove them from use. The loud speaker problem is caused by a manufacturing failure.
The Irish Medicines Board have also issued a safety notice now to all hospitals and health care providers to ensure that these monitors are checked and where they are found to be defected, they are immediately removed from use.
